CARDWELL CALLS ON “CONVENIENT-CRAT” MARTIN TO EXPLAIN

(Jim Martin didn't want to work against his “old friend,” Bush supporter Vernon Jones.)

Georgia 's Independent Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Dale Cardwell has released his latest “Dalethetruth” You Tube campaign spot. ( www.dalethetruth.com ) The video thanks Jim Martin's campaign for “telling the truth” when asked if Martin really did tell Dale Cardwell last fall that Martin wouldn't challenge Cardwell for the U.S. Senate nomination. Obviously, Martin has changed his mind, and Dale acknowledges that's Jim's right.

Today, Dale is telling voters about a more “troubling” aspect of his and Martin's face to face meeting; an aspect Dale believes speaks to courage and character. Dale says:

“I asked Jim last fall if he would support my candidacy, and make a contribution to my campaign. Jim said he just couldn't do it. Was there some policy issue we couldn't iron out? No, we agreed the war in Iraq was a huge mistake and must come to an end. We also agreed Vernon Jones' political and personal baggage would prevent him from beating Saxby Chambliss, so a Jones nomination would be a disaster for Democrats in November. So why wouldn't Jim endorse me? Jim said he wasn't going to support any Democrat in the Senate primary because he didn't want to work against his “old friend” Vernon Jones. He said they were in the legislature together and had known each other for years. Jim looked me in the eye and said “Dale, I'm just going to stay neutral.”

If Jim Martin couldn't summon the courage and integrity to endorse an honest Democrat over Vernon Jones, a man who proudly touts the fact he voted for George W. Bush twice , then where's Jim going to find the backbone to take on Republican Saxby Chambliss? (We all remember what Chambliss did to war hero Max Cleland.)

Cardwell believes Martin is a “convenient-crat” who found the courage to enter the race only after a handful of political “insiders” promised they'd deliver him bucketfuls of special interest “pac” contributions; contributions Dale Cardwell and Barack Obama have refused because special interests have paralyzed Washington and control most of our elected officials.

Dale says, “Jim needs to explain to the people of Georgia how he's going to stand up for them, if he wouldn't stand up to Vernon Jones last fall and won't take a stand against special interest “pacs” today or in the future.”
