I got into the news business for two reasons: To tell the truth and to make a positive difference in people's lives. I can honestly say today, I've done my very best on both counts, and my record is clear.

I've asked tough questions, dug for answers and exposed sweet heart deals that were costing you and your families millions of wasted tax dollars.

Today, that corruption continues, quite frankly, because our government is held hostage by special interests. They are the real rulers in Washington. They prevent us from dealing with the problems facing our nation. We have to act now to break their grip and return power to you, the American people.

There's no better example of special interest power than the amnesty bill that Senator Saxby Chambliss helped write. Instead of protecting the interests of the Americans, it protects the big corporations by making sure they have continuing access to cheap illegal labor, labor that undercuts your wages, keeps corporations from paying employment taxes, and destroys minimum labor standards. As your Senator, I will fight to secure our borders, and I will fight for an immigration system that protects you and your family, not the big corporations.

We also have to fix our tax system. Change it in a way that provides across-the-board tax relief - meaning it has to provide at least as much help to the middle class and small businesses as it does to the special interests who can afford high-powered lobbyists. A tax system that shifts its burden to the middle class and small businesses while giving special breaks and loopholes to the wealthy and powerful is just wrong. Let's tell it like it is…The IRS has lost the trust of the American people. We have to abolish and replace it.

You may be asking yourself why I would be any different when I get to Washington. You may think, like I do, that politicians always talk a good game at election time, but then get to Washington and become part of the problem. Well, this is how I will be different. I will not take money from special interests PACs or registered Washington lobbyists - not for this campaign, and not after I get elected. The best way to stay true to what I promise you, and to what I believe, is to stay outside the system that has corrupted so many before me, and that's why I will never take money from PACs or registered Washington lobbyists.
